Erie Canal Ride
Ride Captain: Ray Sanders
Scenic ride following the Mohawk River/Erie Canal for a portion of the ride.
First stop will be at the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. This site is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the Erie Canal as one of the 19th century’s greatest commercial and engineering projects. The Visitor Center exhibit traces the history of the Erie Canal and its impact on the growth of New York State and the nation.
We will then make a quick stop at Lock 15 in Fort Plain. Then we’ll continue on to Historic Lock 36 / Lock 17 in Little Falls. This lock is the highest lift gate lock in NYS at over 40 feet tall. You are allowed to walk on top of the lock to pass to the other side. (Walking to the top does require climbing many steep stairs).
